I was first introduced to fishing by my Dad and Grandpa at a very young age. My Grandpa was a keen angler spending most weekends out in the boat, or down the Murray River. My parents always say they can see the same passion for fishing in me as my Grandpa had so I guess being around him had a real influence on me.
My first fish was a tommy ruff caught on Semaphore Jetty and from that moment on I’ve been hooked. Most days fishing as a kid were spent either at West Lakes or the many metro jetties with my mates bait fishing for whatever we could catch, with the occasional trip to Wallaroo with the family.
The way I fish now has changed quite a bit as most of my fishing outings are spent flicking lures for bream as a sponsored tournament angler for Fishing SA magazine. The pressure of competition fishing is like nothing else, testing myself against some of the best bream fisherman in SA is a real thrill. However, I do enjoy all types of fishing whether it is squidding, chasing snapper or crabbing and fishing in general is something that I hold close to my heart.
I happen to be fortunate enough to be working at Adelaide Metro Tackle World and have been in the tackle industry for a number of years now.
Ed’s Note. Nathan Peckham is a Fishing SA sponsored tournament bream angler, and a regular contributor to the magazine.
